The next generation of Apple's OSX Leopard version 10.5 has been scheduled for worldwide release on October 26th. Some 300+ new features have been announced. You can get a preview of new features here.

Oh yes - there is quite at bit of exitement about all this. But early adopter should be aware that major operating system upgrades also bring challenges and quite a few bugs. So, my first recommedation to you is to make shure you have a complete, booteable backup of your production system to allow you to fall back to what you know works ;-)

That said, is it worth upgrading? I would say most definately Yes. Whilst lots of the new features look like they are just good fun here are a few more serious features that caught my attention:

iCal - CalDAV Group Scheduling: About time. This feature is essential for workgroups.

Mail - Forward as Attachment: Another essential feature we have been kept waiting for plus a host of really useful features. Mail is definately improved.

Networking - Self-Tuning TCP: Excellent. This will make quite a difference. Can't wait to try this.

Parental Control - Activity Logging, Dynamic Web Filter and more: Hmm. Not only parents will appreciate these new feature.

Printing - Printer Drivers via Software Update: Sound good to me.

Quick Look : Sound like a useful time saver.

Security: Many improvements and new features. Some may turn out to be a must have for companies and business users.

Spaces: This will be very useful for busy users.

Spotlight: Some very nice enhancements here like Spotlight Application Launching.

System - Live Partition Resizing in Disk Utility: Very useful when you run out of partition space.

Time Machine - Back Up Everything and other features: This is the most important addition in my opinion. Highly recommended for all. I can't wait to evaluate this new feature.

Of course here it a lot more of varying importance. Have a look for yourself here.
